Tonight Tim and I ate at a favorite vegetarian (not vegan) restaurant in the West Village, Red Bamboo. It was super yummy. The restaurant itself is kind of a sexy-hole-in-the-wall place two doors down from Vegetarian's Paradise. (Owned by the same people, but very different feel) The restaurant features a bevvy of vegetarian delights from tofu-portablla stir fry to wheat gluten shrimp and the usual suspects of tofu chicken patties and fake beef.
We started with the thai spring rolls which are rice paper filled with soy strips, jicama, carrot, and cabbage; served with a sweet soy dipping sauce.
I had the bbq tofu club with soy bacon, lettuce, and tomato. It was on super fresh whole grain bread with a bbq soy cutlet and crispy soy bacon. I had nayonaise on the side but it didn't need it. The tofu was filling and moist, and the barbeque sauce added great flavor.
The restaurant is like a cool hang out for vegetarians. I very much like it.
July 5-9th in Pitts-Johnston, PA is the Vegetarian Summerfest. It promises to be a good time if I can convince my husband to go. anyone else wanna join? We all need to be good stewards of the earth.
